Fowlkes's Film "Hopeless" to Screen at Numerous U.S. Film Festivals

Hopeless, a short film by PMA Visiting Assistant Professor Juanie Fowlkes, has been selected by numerous film festivals throughout the United States, including the Rocket City Short Film Festival in her home state of Alabama.

Hopeless is a story about a young woman, Shylo, in a struggling relationship, who is faced with the tough decision of whether or not to renew her lease,” Fowlkes said about the film.  “The story explores the complexities of long-term relationships and how folks grow apart. We tend to overromanticize being a hopeful romantic and seeing the potential of what something could be, which can lead us to a hopeless end.”

“The film was made on a roughly 16k budget and was shot over two days,” said Fowlkes.  “Our team consisted of Sports Emmy-nominated editor Tre'Vonn Davis, Krystina Fairclough, Bryant Lydell, NAACP Image Award-nominated Gem Little, Tremaine Norris, and myself.”

The film is a dark dramedy featuring D.K. Uzoukwu of HBO's Insecure and Amazon Freevee's Clean Slate and Lauren Wilkins of TV One's Tough Love
