This year’s annual 10-Minute Playfest, themed “Unbound,” will explore what it means to be free and the impact of physical, mental, spatial, and temporal boundaries.
The festival features work from both undergraduate and graduate student playwrights and directors. With each play examining various interpretations of freedom and the significance of being unbound, the subject matter ranges from familial pressures and strained relationships, to imbalances and abuses of power, to struggling with isolation, insecurity, and identity crises.
This year’s 10-minute play selections are “Miss Anne,” written by Kristen Wright and directed by Elaigwu Ameh; “Booty Call,” written by Teagan Todd and directed by Jillian Berkowitz; “Sangre y Agua,” written by Irving Torres and directed by Kelly Richmond; “Method Acting,” written by Julia Shebek and directed by Ruby Que; “Six Thousand Five Hundred and Seventy,” written by Madeleine Gray and directed by Franklin Wang; and “A Fresh Start,” written by Jayme Kilburn and directed by Nick Fesette.
"This year's 10-Minute Playfest continues the tradition of featuring thought-provoking theatre pieces written, directed, and acted by students," said Julia Dunetz, who is producing the festival along with Samuel Blake. "We are so proud of all of the spectacular work that the team has done thus far."
Performances of 10-Minute Playfest: Unbound are in the Schwartz Center’s Black Box Theatre September 28 at 7:30 p.m., September 29 at 5:00 p.m., and October 1 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at schwartztickets.com or at the Schwartz Center box office Monday–Saturday, 1:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.
