'Baltimore' confronts racial tensions on college campuses

<p>A racist caricature drawn on a freshman dorm room door is the catalyst that precipitates intense discussions and confrontations about race in “<a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScxrUuvOIBP-_VKEpgOhMeGNYSQhQfjxcRgPypgno6JehwGUQ/viewform">Baltimore</a>.” The play by Kirsten Greenidge, which runs April 28 to May 6 at Cornell’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts, references the riots in Ferguson, the Black Lives Matter movement and the deaths of Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin,</p>

Student-made films to screen at Schwartz Center

<p>From stories of budding romances to a vampire huntress out for revenge, the Department of Performing and Media Arts will screen films written and directed by students from Advanced Filmmaking (PMA 4585) and photographed by students from Cinematography (PMA 4420).</p><p>The free screenings will take place at 7 p.m. May 15 in the Kiplinger Theatre, Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.</p>

Often referred to as the “Oscars of spoken word entertainment,” the Audie Awards are given out by the Audio Publishers Association</p>

Cornell Council for the Arts supports 35 new projects

<p>The Cornell Council for the Arts (CCA) is supporting 35 projects that will be presented on campus this academic year. Through its Individual Grant Program, the CCA awarded 15 grants of $2,500 each to Cornell faculty, departments and programs, and 20 grants of $1,000 each to undergraduate and graduate students and student organizations. Recipients were selected by a panel of faculty in the arts.</p>

Escape from the Archive Conference examines relationship between performance & history

<p dir="ltr">Scholars and artists will explore the interaction between history, theatre and performance during the Escape from the Archive Conference, Oct. 27-29 at the Schwartz Center. Syrian political satire premieres at Cornell

<p>"Hamlet Wakes Up Late," a biting political satire of Shakespeare's tragedy by renowned Syrian poet and playwright Mamduh Adwan, will have its English-language premiere this month at the Schwartz Center. The production, translated by Margaret Litvin and directed by Rebekah Maggor, assistant professor in the Department of Performing & Media Arts, will feature original music, dancing, action-packed scenes, humor and extravagant costumes. Performances are Nov.</p>
