PMA Associate Professor Jeffrey Palmer’s Film "N. Scott Momaday: Words from a Bear" to Air On PBS

An In-Memoriam broadcast of American Masters, N. Scott Momaday: Words from a Bear produced and directed by PMA Associate Professor Jeffrey Palmer, will air on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:30pm EST on WNET/13, PBS’s largest affiliate station. The broadcast will also be available for streaming on pbs.org and YouTube during the In Memoriam window. Several other PBS affiliates will be airing the episode across the country, including Momaday’s home state of Oklahoma on PBS-OETA on Friday at 9:00 pm CST.

The broadcast commemorates the life of N. Scott Momaday (Kiowa/Cherokee), a Pulitzer Prize winning author and educator who is “credited with a resurgence of Native American literature,” and passed away on January 24, at the age of 89.

"He made Native American literature and storytelling palatable to the rest of the world," Palmer said in an article from Native News Online. "He was a changemaker and an icon. For the Kiowa people it was profound to see our stories told to the rest of the world. I put Momaday up there with Whitman and Faulkner. He was a great American writer, not only a Native American writer."
