Dance Multidisciplinary Movement Faculty
Cornell University’s Department of Performing and Media Arts seeks a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer or Assistant/Associate Professor of the Practice in Intermedia
Dance/Multidisciplinary Movement for a full-time position beginning July 1, 2023. This is a renewable, non-tenure-track position. Title will be based upon qualifications and experience.
We are interested in candidates who can teach movement and dance across different media, and who are invested in innovative, anti-racist choreographic practices. The successful candidate will have experience in creative work and in teaching (in the classroom, through workshops, or master classes). Their interests may include but are not limited to minoritarian movement, disability and dance, Indigenous dance, and feminist and queer embodiment across live and mediated performances, multi-sensory productions, projections, installations, screen dance, dance theatre, short-form dance, film, and digital media. Professional experience and/or MFA is required.
The Department of Performing and Media Arts serves a diverse range of student populations. Teaching includes 3 movement/dance courses each semester, in composition and embodied practice, as well as courses that result in public presentations (which may count toward teaching). The person in this position will help teach and reimagine the core critical studies course (currently titled “Global Dance,” possibly renamed “Performance Worlds”) on a rotation with other dance and performance studies faculty, and collaborate with dance, performance, acting, costume, set, and sound design faculty. We are open to courses and directions based on the individual interest of the hire.
The Department of Performing and Media Arts is committed to the development of a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. We offer B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in a liberal arts environment that allow a wide range of students to study and explore live and mediated forms of creativity and expression (film, theatre, dance, immersive installation, etc.).
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter that demonstrates how critical analysis is evident in the candidate’s creative work and pedagogical practice, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, three descriptions of courses they might be interested in teaching (up to 300 words each), three letters of recommendation, and a Statement of Contribution to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (please see

The deadline for applications is November 7, 2022.
