Film Acting Opportunities at the Department of

Two film-acting opportunities are currently available at the Department of . The student filmmakers are looking to cast characters college-aged and older.  Open to all Cornell students, faculty, and staff.  BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ are encouraged to participate. 

Casting for Film and Video Production II Class
Five films written and directed by Professor Palmer's students in PMA's Film and Video Production II Class are casting actors.

The student filmmakers are

WHEN:
The casting session is happening Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 5-7 pm.

Casting for So What? 
A thesis film production, written and directed by Joshua Akinwumi.

Synopsis:
So, What? is a short film that grapples with the importance of ambition in a world that is collapsing.  Set in a failing comedy club, three comedians struggle to break into the industry. They are stuck, unsatisfied, and hopeless. So what? 

Character Breakdowns:

  • Tobi (20s) Tobi is a driven, resourceful, stylish comedian who is ready to make it big.
  • Greg (20s) An upbeat, charismatic comedian, Greg is an instantly likable and relaxed presence. 
  • Abraham (50+) Abraham is a stern, clean-cut club owner with sharp eyes and a measured demeanor.
  • Cris (40+) Cris is a warm club owner with a loud, full laugh and a love for Hawaiian shirts.
  • Bethany (20s) Bethany is a constantly sullen but witty and well-meaning comedian. 
  • Thaddeus (30+) Thaddeus is a successful comedian with a massive ego.
  • Actors should prepare a short (up to 2 minutes) monologue. Actors may read their monologues.
     

People of any gender can play any role.  The production team will provide some monologues to be read on the day if needed.  If auditioning for the role of a comedian, actors can also prepare up to 1 minute of stand-up comedy (this does not have to be original content).

The casting session is happening Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 6-9 pm.
