Overview
Breigh Plat is a born-and-raised Texan pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of Performing and Media Arts at Cornell University. The questions that animate their work emerge at the intersection of Black studies, affect theory, and queer of color critique. Media objects that capture their attention include short-form video content, reality television, and contemporary surveillance tools. They are especially interested in the content and community discourse created by Black influencers on TikTok, particularly those who have pivoted from backgrounds on reality television. They completed their B.A. in Black Studies and Plan II Honors at The University of Texas at Austin, where they were a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow.
