Hello, my name is Samantha Sheppard. I am so happy to welcome you to the department. In this brief video, I want to help you have a sense of who we are and what we do as a group of faculty, students, and staff. The work we do here in PMA is located at the intersection of creativity and critical thought, and we combine the making of media, films, and live performance with the study of dance, theatre, film, television, and related forms. Here in PMA, we offer a major in performing and media arts, and various minors in theatre, film, and dance. And if you work with us, you can study these art forms. You can also learn to make them yourselves.

Well, PMA is a great place to be curious, to explore, and to reconnect, we have a wide variety of diverse courses, dozens of courses, theatre, film, dance, media, in all their permutations. You can understand the subject, analyze it, reflect on it, but you also have the chance to make the art form yourself.

This is an exciting time to be a part of film and video production, as we're expanding the curriculum, adding new instructors, and collaborating across the whole department, whether you are a future documentary filmmaker, narrative filmmaker, or screenwriter, film and video production will provide a slate of courses that will allow you to explore the freedom to create in this amazing, exciting, and energetic field of study.

Now, here at PMA, we offer undergraduate and graduate students from across campus the opportunity to seriously study, practice, and perform a range of dance forms, traditions, and modes of thinking.

Now, you can expect to take classes that enrich and challenge you. In addition to being in the studio, you will also sit in seminar and lecture classes, understanding the historical, theoretical, and political context that shape dance, and in turn, how dance reshapes those contexts.

PMA offers wonderful hands-on for academic credit learning opportunities, and as a student, you can participate in the areas of acting, design, dance, technical production, or even be on backstage crew. Whether you're a major or minor, or just an admirer of the arts, these learning opportunities can often be used to fulfill academic credit across the university. We hope you will get involved this year as a participant, an audience member, and most importantly, as a student in our classes.
