Join the Department of Performing Arts from March 7-9 for four performances of Stupid F##king Bird, a play by Aaron Posner, directed by Fannie Massarsky ’24. Full event details below.
Stupid F##king Bird, a modern-day, dark comedy adaptation of Chekhov’s classic 19th century play The Seagull, explores unrequited love, passion versus fame, and the toll of mediocrity. The story follows Con, a young writer who seeks validation from his successful starlet mother, Emma and his girlfriend, Nina, an aspiring actress. Posner’s work is equipped with songs, fourth wall breaks, dance sequences and explicit language.
"My approach is towing the line between finding humanity and vulnerability in these characters, and highlighting the metatheatricality of the play,” says Massarsky. “I hope audiences feel connected to at least one part of the production, whether it be with the flawed characters looking for love, or to the dialogue surrounding the theater." Stupid F##king Bird invites us to question the measures we take to inject our lives with meaning, bringing the classic play to a new generation of audiences.
