Join the Department of Performing and Media Arts for Professional Directions: When All Feels Lost – Dark Night of the Soul with Kiana Cole on Thursday, April 25, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in Conference Room 220, Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. The event will be hosted by PMA Visiting Assistant Professor, Juanie Fowlkes.

Kiana Cole will join virtually to discuss how student storytellers can face hardships in a challenging industry. Covering internships to first jobs, Kiana will speak with students about coping with rejection, pivoting when faced with adversity, and tuning into their self-worth.

Concepts that will be explored include:

  • Self-Worth & Rejection
  • Self- Regulation & Coping strategies
  • Mindfulness strategies
  • Building a community/support system
  • Self-identity

Seats are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free and open to the public. 

The Professional Directions series brings industry experts to campus to speak about their career journeys as screenwriters, playwrights, editors, producers, directors, theatre critics, dramaturgs, and more.

Kiana Cole is a mindfulness and self-care educator, certified meditation instructor, and wellness consultant. She is the teacher who uses messages of peace, love and joy to facilitate spaces for accessible healing, storytelling, and education. Her business Kickin It With Ki L.L.C. seeks to help learning communities, teachers, and students Cut The Noise so they can live their best, most purposeful lives through mindfulness, self-care, and community care. She provides support, workshops, and resources that bring people closer to daily wellness. Her specialty is working with teachers, students, and community organizations and helping them have healthier communities. As a former full-time public-school teacher, she sees herself as the bridge between mindfulness and education.
