PMA Professor J. Ellen Gainor Publishes Article in Coup de Théâtre Journal

PMA Professor J. Ellen Gainor has written an article called "Susan Glaspell, Actor" for the journal Coup de Théâtre, published by the French academic society RADAC. The article appears in a special issue called Susan Glaspell: Past & Present.

“Scholars, myself included, have written extensively about Glaspell's work as a playwright, fictionist, and non-fiction author,” said Gainor. “But there was no scholarship on Glaspell's work as an actor, especially in the context of American performance techniques in the early twentieth century. My article discusses Glaspell's acting and the modernist performance modes that were emerging at the time.”

RADAC, an inter-university association of researchers of contemporary Anglophone drama, was officially founded in 1978, after two years of collaborative work on the statutes and missions of the association. From the onset, RADAC was innovative in its eagerness to foster a collective approach to research on contemporary Anglophone theatre and to tap into the flurry of changing practices on stage and in academia. RADAC’s research themes cover all the steps of theatre-making and range from the text on the page to the performance on stage, through translation and intermedial adaptation.
