PMA Professor David Feldshuh visited and spoke with the students in Ph.D. student Isaiah Washington’s First-Year Writing Seminar titled, "Writing Medicine: Stories of Illness and Healing.”
"The students in the course were intensely interested in how an unethical medical experiment, the Tuskegee Study, could happen,” said Feldshuh. “The moral dilemma of the nurse caught between doctors and patients; the process of adapting a real event to a fictional play; the politics of writing a controversial story; and, the present-day legacy of the Tuskegee Study with respect to medical research and the African American community."
