PMA Professor Austin Bunn to Host “The Short & Story” Event

PMA Associate Professor Austin Bunn will be hosting a screening and panel discussion at the Parkway Theatre in Baltimore on Tuesday, April 15 called "The Short & Story." The screening will include seven films by Maryland filmmakers across the genres of animation, documentary, experimental and narrative film, and Bunn will also discuss his recently released book, Short Film Screenwriting. The event is sponsored by Johns Hopkins University's Graduate Film and Media Program, the Maryland Institute for Contemporary Art, the Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway Theatre.

"Since publishing Short Film Screenwriting, I've done several screenings across the country to celebrate the short form and bring together the filmmakers to explore the concepts from the book,” says Bunn. “In Baltimore, we'll be screening an eerie family drama ("Carving"), an animated myth ("Amathus"), even a punchy short doc ("Renegades: Kitty O'Neil"), and they all share compelling protagonists, story progression, and uncommon relationships. Nothing inspires the next generation of filmmakers more than hearing how each storyteller found and developed theirs, from the first glimmers of inspiration to final cut. And let's be real, watching movies in a community of artists is much more fun than a book reading!"
