PMA Department Chair and Professor Samantha Noelle Sheppard was quoted in an article by Isabel Bekele for Dazed called “Where are all the Black coming-of-age shows?”
In the article, which touches on the new YA television show Sterling Point, Sheppard comments “Often, once networks became financially solvent, they abandoned their Black media content for the idea of [perceived] ‘prestige’ and ‘legitimacy’…”. Black girls deserve to see themselves be cutely, complexly loved on screen, too.”
