PMA Department Chair Samantha N. Sheppard to Speak at Silent Film Screening

PMA Department Chair Samantha N. Sheppard will be giving an introduction for a screening and discussion of The Flying Ace (1926) at the Carriage House Theater in Auburn, NY. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:30 PM.

Presented in partnership with the Wharton Studio Museum and the Cayuga Museum of History & Art, this program explores the 1926 race film The Flying Ace directed by Richard E. Norman and starring Lawrence Criner. In 2021, the film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Sheppard will provide an overview of the genre of "race films" and introduce key ideas about the film featured. Afterwards, she will answer audience questions about the screening and African American film history.
