Cornell University’s Department of invites you to expect the unexpected with the Locally Grown Dance Festival in the Kiplinger Theatre at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts, March 17-19 at 7:30 p.m. This year's performance is titled, Loss, Denial and Desire: The Melodrama of the Krewe of Doberge Ball.

Director Byron Suber and his cast of 18 dancers use New Orleans-style excess as a backdrop to explore concepts of melodrama in all its forms, from emotional to the visual. What does it mean and when does it go to a dark place? What’s crazy and what is everyday life? Who defines what is too much?

The performance is told in narrative form with costumes and music born out of carnival and circus, using elements of Mardi Gras and debutante balls to challenge the audience with unique physicality and melody.

Tickets for the Locally Grown Dance Festival are on sale now at the Schwartz box office and at schwartztickets.com.
