A free screening of the award-winning documentary Lampedusa in Winter will be shown on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Cornell Cinema, Willard Straight Hall. Director Jakob Brossmann and filmmaker Stefania Schenk Vitale will be in attendance.
Lampedusa in Winter is set on the Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea that is at the forefront of a world-changing refugee crisis.
The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2015, received multiple awards, and was screened at the European Parliament.
Brossmann is an award-winning filmmaker who studied stage and film design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. Schenk Vitale, trained as an interpreter and translator, assured communication with people on Lampedusa. They are part of a young, interdisciplinary, multilingual documentary production company, Finali Film.
