A biting political satire by Syrian poet & playwright Mamduh Adwan, Hamlet Wakes Up Late makes its English premiere November 10 at the Schwartz Center!
In Hamlet Wakes Up Late, Hamlet is a narcissistic prince, blissfully unaware of his people's bleak reality. Distracted by drink and theatre rehearsals, Hamlet fails to notice the rise of a brutal plutocratic dictatorship.
Translated by Margaret Litvin and adapted and directed by Cornell Performing & Media Arts assistant professor Rebekah Maggor, this production brings together text, original music and movement to explore past and present events in Syria, while at the same time pushing the boundaries of our contemporary political conversation in the U.S.
Hamlet Wakes Up Late runs November 10-18, 2017 at the in the Flex Theatre, Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. The Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts is located at 430 College Avenue, in the heart of Ithaca's Collegetown.
