Diversión: Play and Popular Culture in Cuban America, 4/20

In his forthcoming book, Diversión: Play and Popular Culture in Cuban America, author Albert Sergio Laguna (Yale University) probes the dramatic demographic and cultural shifts that have taken place within the Cuban diaspora in the last 20 years by examining the aesthetic and social logics of a wide range of popular culture forms. 

In this talk, he will focus on how the transnational circulation of standup comedy and a media distribution system on the island known as “el paquete” (the package) are producing cultural and economic connections that are transforming life in Miami and Cuba.
