Fresh off her run as associate producer of the successful national tour of Hundred Days, Cornell University senior Julia Dunetz ’19 will be making her Broadway producing debut as a co-producer on SEA WALL / A LIFE, starring Jake Gyllenhaal & Tom Sturridge, coming to The Hudson Theatre on Broadway in summer 2019.
“I am beyond thrilled to be making my debut with such a stunning piece of theatre. It is some of the most brilliant storytelling I have seen on a stage, and I feel so lucky to be able to help bring that beauty to such a wide audience on a Broadway stage,” says Julia.
While a student at Cornell, Julia has served as the first undergraduate co-producer of the Cornell Department of ’ (PMA) annual 10-Minute Play Festival. She also directed the plays Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon and Constellations by Nick Payne, both staged at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.
“I became involved with SEA WALL / A LIFE because one of the lead producers of it is also one of the lead producers of a musical that I am the Associate Producer of. Nick Payne wrote A LIFE (one half of SEA WALL / A LIFE), and he is also the playwright of Constellations, the play that I directed last semester in the Schwartz at Cornell. When I realized the connection, it felt kismet, and I knew that this was the play I wanted to make by Broadway producing debut with. This whole experience has literally been a dream come true, and I cannot wait to share this story with the world,” says Julia.
While at Cornell, Julia is studying Human Development, Theatre, and Business. She was recently named the 2019 recipient of the Drama Book Award, an honor given by Cornell PMA faculty and staff to a Cornell senior who has made an outstanding contribution to theater.
Professionally, Julia has experience working on over 30 Broadway productions with two Broadway marketing and advertising agencies (Situation Interactive; SpotCo), a Broadway producer (Harbor Entertainment), and a Broadway general management firm (Richards/Climan, Inc.). Select clients include Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen,The Band's Visit, Mean Girls, Amelie, Kinky Boots, The Great Comet, and School of Rock, among others.
SEA WALL / A LIFE opens on July 26, 2019, for a limited engagement, with performances thru September 29, 2019.
