CNY Humanities Working Group MP28: Evolving Practices in Dance & Embodiment invites pedagogues, critical practitioners, researchers, and scholars to attend Conjuring Memory, Reclamation & Community: How We Rewrite Our Narratives on Sunday, September 27, 11:00am - 3:00pm in the Studio 320, Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts.
The methodologies of award-winning dancer and choreographer Jie-Hung Connie Shiau center on revealing the unseen geographic of the body—those internal spaces where memory, emotion, and instinct are stored, shielded, or released in the on-going act of self-preservation.
Through guided movement practices and improvisation, breathwork and mindfulness, and creative, collective inquiry, participants illuminate their own invisible architectures that shape how we survive, endure, and transform.
Movement research rises and collapses like crushing waves—surges of force that overwhelm, break open, and regenerate—echoing the nonlinear ways we carry and retell our stories.
The afternoon will include lunch and a conversation on pedagogical strategies for cultivating inclusive learning environments in the performing arts.
