When: Thursday, November 16 at 5pm
Where: Film Forum, Schwartz Center
Cornell theater studies alumna Claire Conceison (PhD '00) returns to campus this Thursday to give a lively presentation about China's leading director and theater "badass" Meng Jinghui.
The lecture at 5pm in the Film Forum at Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts is in English and will include video clips of his productions. Meng's signature style has become the benchmark for the avant garde in China as well as set new standards for mainstream theater box office success. The lecture is free and open to the public. Meng Jinghui is currently on his first US tour (to Seattle, SF, and LA) with his production Rhinoceros in Love, and the Cornell Chinese Drama Society is staging their version of Meng's adaptation of Dario Fo's farcical classic Accidental Death of an Anarchist Friday and Saturday evenings at Risley (in Chinese with English subtitles).Use this link to buy tickets for the Risley performances via eventbrite:https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-of-chinese-drama-tickets-39621586231
A limited number of Conceison's new anthology of Meng's work, I Love XXX and Other Plays (a collection of five of his plays in English translation with production photographs and a DVD with scenes from the plays), is available this week at the Cornell Bookstore for a discounted price of $36. http://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/distributed/I/bo25016437.html
