Virtual Vibrance: Making, Shaking, Breaking Performance

The Department of is looking for dancers who identify as Black and/or members of the African Diaspora to collaborate on a student-led project: Exhibit Noir.

Exhibit Noir will be directed and choreographed by Faith Parris '24 and depicts a Black museum, exploring blackness in the arts while interrogating the white gaze. Incorporating Paul Lawrence Dunbar’s idea of “the mask” and other original poetry, the piece will consist of four consecutive dances that serve to tell a story through the African Diaspora.

Rehearsals for the piece will be held between September 21 and October 19. The final performance will be filmed at an outdoor location with appropriate distancing measures and will be presented as part of Virtual Vibrance, which will run from October 29–31.

Interested dancers should please send a 30-second to 1-minute video of a piece performing choreography that is personally meaningful to them; send videos to kbr42@cornell.edu no later than September 23.
