Cornell professor Bruce Levitt and the Phoenix Players Theatre Group were recently featured in a long-form article titled "Rehearse for Release: Inside the Fight for a Maximum Security Prison Theater" on Inverse.com.
Since 2009, Levitt and a host of graduate students from Cornell University have worked with prisoners in the maximum security Auburn Correctional Facility to put on performances written by the prisoners themselves. The program is built around the idea that utilizes theatre can help incarcerated people reconnect to their full humanity.
