Assistant Professor of the Practice Danielle Russo has been selected as a 2025 New York State Choreographers Initiative Award Recipient, administered by the New York State Council on the Arts and NYS DanceForce. This award will support the research and development of her new intermedia dance and community archival project, with emphasis on its community engagement in Central New York in Spring and Fall 2025.
"In this moment, in this world of precarious uncertainty, I’m especially grateful for the opportunity, support, and community to create, and for the responsibilities imbued in creating, in responding at this time. I will be working with longtime collaborators on the excavation, reconciliation, and healing of genealogies of pain amongst womxn, in parallel to the historic, 'meritorious' metric of pain in Western concert dance, starting with the autobiographical," said Russo.
"Thank you to NYSCA and NYS DanceForce for selecting me as a NYSCI Awardee for 2025, and to Alexandra Wells for being project mentor."
