PMA's Karen Jaime will present her book The Queer Nuyorican: Racialized Sexualities and Aesthetics in Loisaida at the next PMAPS ( Presentation Series) Colloquium.

Karen Jaime (Ph.D., Performance Studies, NYU) is Assistant Professor of and Latina/o Studies. Her book, The Queer Nuyorican: Racialized Sexualities and Aesthetics in Loisaida (NYU Press, 2021), uses hip-hop studies alongside critical race, queer, literary, and performance theories to demonstrate how historically pejorative identity markers are recuperated and recodified as valuable tools in the development of contemporary aesthetic practices. In addition to Karen's critical writing and research, she is also an accomplished spoken word/performance artist.
