The Department of Performing and Media Arts invites student groups from the Cornell community to apply for our limited number of space grants. These grants allow access to the Class of '56 Dance Studio Theatre (SB10) in the Schwartz Center.

PMA values its own work as well as the work supported by the department. We are looking for student groups that can demonstrate ethical commitments and carefully consider such values as equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The Department of Performing and Media Arts leads students from all disciplines through artistic and scholarly explorations of live performance forms, such as theatre and dance, and mediated forms, such as cinema and television. Students are challenged to think creatively, critically, and historically about the world around them as they identify and interpret the power of image, sound, gesture, and movement and cultivate their own artistic and academic voices.

Group Members Involved in PMA
Schedule

The following schedule is tentative, pending some PMA rehearsals and classes. Once that schedule is set, we will know when we can make studio space available for space grant recipients.

Please select, in order of preference, which time slots could work for your group. Be sure to select each ranking only once.

Mondays from 9:30pm–11:00pm and Wednesdays from 9:00pm–11:00pm
Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9:00pm–11:00pm
Fridays from 7:00pm–11:00pm
Saturdays & Sundays from 11:00am–1:00pm
Saturdays & Sundays from 1:00pm–3:00pm
Saturdays & Sundays from 3:00pm–5:00pm
Space Grant Conditions

Once we have set the schedule, a Letter of Agreement (LOA) will be drawn up. This will specify the days and hours of your grant. There may be some dates when the studio (SB10) is not available for you, and these dates, if known, will be listed on your LOA. When possible, your rehearsal will move to the small dance studio, Rm. 321, but this is not guaranteed.

There may be times during the semester when PMA will discover a need for the SB10 studio on dates listed on the LOA. You will get as much notice as possible about these disruptions to your schedule. Again, when possible, we will move your rehearsal to Rm. 321.

The only time your group will have access to any dance studio is during the times listed on your LOA. It may be possible for you to schedule additional rehearsal time under special circumstances, but all such requests must be approved ahead of time by Pam Lillard. "Walk-in" rehearsals or any rehearsals in the Ballet Studio (Rm. 320) will not be permitted.

Space grants are not transferrable. In other words, you may not "give" your studio time to another dance group. If both groups in question are space grant recipients, requests to transfer reservations must be approved ahead of time by Pam Lillard.

Disrespectful behavior towards building managers, staff, faculty, or other student groups (including groups already occupying a studio space) will not be tolerated and will result in the immediate suspension of the space grant.

Space grant recipients pledge not to schedule auditions, rehearsals, or performances at the Schwartz or elsewhere that conflict with and result in pulling PMA dancers/performers from official PMA classes, concerts or rehearsals

Orientation Meeting

A mandatory meeting will be held for groups that are given grants.  Each group must send a representative to this meeting who is authorized to sign the Letter of Agreement.  This letter will outline the rules for the space and list the specific dates when the studio will be unavailable due to PMA programming.  Dance groups will be able to start using the studio at the first opportunity after the meeting.
