Once 100 pounds heavier, Sharrell D. Luckett serves up interesting insights in this autobiographical solo show about her emotional struggle to adjust to life after her major weight loss. Though she's gained a newly slender body, her inner self seems to have trouble letting go of her status as a morbidly obese person. Woven through with elements of music and dance, YoungGiftedandFat explores the prejudices and real-world limitations placed upon the overweight and the Fat Acceptance movement that's fighting those pre-conceptions.
Following the show, Joan Jacobs Brumberg, Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow and Professor Emerita at Cornell University, will host a conversation with Luckett.
