Katherine Lynn-Rose’s musical short film Class Crush has been accepted to the 2024 TIFF Next Wave Film Festival and the 2024 National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY). TIFF will run from April 11-14 in Toronto, Ontario, and NFTTY will run from April 25-28 in Seattle, Washington.
“Last semester, I had the incredible opportunity to take Film and Video Production I here at Cornell,” says Lynn-Rose. “For my final project, I wrote, directed, and acted in my very first short film, Class Crush. It's a fun blend of rom-com and horror, complete with a musical theatre style song! I'm absolutely thrilled to share that "Class Crush" has been selected to make its world premiere at the prestigious TIFF Next Wave Film Festival in Toronto, followed by its US premiere at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth this April! This recognition is truly an honor, and I can't express how excited I am to showcase my work to the world. Special thanks to Jeff, Randy, and the PMA Department for making this possible!”
CLASS CRUSH SYNOPSIS: In class, Julia quietly admires Riley from a distance. Their first awkward interaction leads to a friendship as they walk home together after school. Over time, their connection deepens, and Riley invites Julia to the upcoming homecoming dance. After meeting up at Riley’s house, Julia and Riley arrive at homecoming, a scene of sparkling lights and dancing couples. Everything is perfect. But as the night wears on, Julia’s dream starts to crack, slowly revealing the blood-stained truth: she is dancing with a dead body.
KATHERINE LYNN-ROSE is a Chinese-Canadian actor, singer, composer/lyricist, and writer/director passionate about promoting Asian representation in the arts. Katherine performed as a semi-finalist in the second season of Canada’s Got Talent, and her original music has amassed over 40 million streams on streaming platforms. Katherine is currently studying Performing and Media Arts at Cornell University. Class Crush is Katherine’s directorial debut.
